Lest we forget - today is ANZAC day

The day Australians and New Zealanders commemorate killed service men and women, and surviving veterans, since the failed Gallipoli landings in WW1.

This video shows the pre-ANZAC day service on the steps of the Sydney Opera House. New Zealand-born Sir Sam Neill reads iconic poem For the Fallen at Anzac Day Eve sunset tribute while a full orchestra plays Sir Edward Elgar's Nimrod variation - the same English music used in the iconic film Australia.

We are a strange mob. After a solemn service celebrating defeat, the beer flows freely and we can legally bet on two-up.  I often frequent the Opera Bar at the Sydney Opera House before concerts.  Multi-cultural - you bet!

Out of curiosity, what if anything do people down under have to say about Winston, especially on this occasion?  I ask since this fiasco was the nadir of his career.

Thanks for posting.  I’ve never heard of ANZAC day.  Anything that pays respect to anyone’s fallen heroes and veterans I can get behind.  Just yesterday, my wife and I went to an American Legion hall for a fundraiser.  They had a 16 piece band playing Jimmy/Tommy Dorsey, Harry James and Glen Miller tunes. When I heard there were going to be three trombones, four trumpets and five saxophones, I knew I was going to have a great night.
