Question about bypassing Oppo dac

Hello all

I want to bypass the DAC in my Oppo 203 bdp, But the sources I have consulted indicate that the only way to do that is with either a coaxial or an HDMI connection. However, I have been told that the SACD format requires analog connections to function fully SACD quality. I am using Buchardt Powered speakers, which have their own DAC built-in, And a Primare sc15 Music streamer. I would appreciate any input and help anybody could provide.

Note:  I ended up ripping all my SACDs to .dsf files (DSD) and feeding them as files through my streamer.   I also have a McIntosh MCT500 SACD player that will feed my McIntosh DAC, but, I still prefer the convenience of using the streamer to pick any DSD (.dsf) song I want as a file. To do this, you need an older Sony Blu-ray player like a Sony BDP-S5100 3D Blu-ray Player that you can pickup on Ebay for under $50.  This is what I use.  Then, you put a few commands on a USB drive, plug the USB drive in the back of the Blu-ray player, load the SACD, and it will automatically rip DSD to the usb disk as a .dsf file.  If you are interested, search the internet for the details for the commands, and the Sony machines that will work.

@yyzsantabarbara , I have an Oppo 105D that’s in the closet and currently run an Original Schiit Yiggy. If I get the Oppo out and purchase the DBOB, is there a protocol issue with PCM over DSD ? BTW the adult toy that you have ( I have no idea what it’s called) is amazing and I’d love to see a video of it in action. Much Respect, Mike B.

@buellrider97 you are out of luck with the Yggi. It does not support DSD. Do not believe ChatGPT on this, it says it will work. I tried it with a couple of Yggi+’s and failed miserably. I tried 2 OPPO units with the Yggi and none worked.

I spoke on head-fi with Schiit on this. I emailed the designer of the D.BOB and they are 100% certain the Yggi’s will not work work with the D.BOB.

These DACs that I tried work easily with the D.BOB, RME, Benchmark, and Meitner MA3i.

The adult toy is actually my son’s marble run. We had it custom made 4+ years ago when he was 5 years old. The room that the marble run resides is/was his playroom and I happened to sneak in a stereo system into. Today, we removed most of the toys and just have the marble run left.

There is only 1 marble run like my son’s, and this is it.

@yyzsantabarbara , THANK YOU for that info , I have 2 Schiit DAC’s and would definitely be disappointed. The marble run is BOMB ! Thanks to the Op my apologies for the intrusion.

Let me say this about Oppo

I had this, loved it’s performance, video and audio, it’s DACs

I tried a highly recommended Oppo 205, recommended here: I liked the 83 sound better.

I got my Sony xa5400es, and gave my Oppo 83 to a friend.

He used it as a transport to his separate dac for years, until the dac failed

Low and Behold, he started using the dac in the Oppo 83 and had to admit, it sounded better than the ’better’ one that died.

He bought the ’separate better dac’ thing, and all those years .....

so, like anything phono, try to buy with return options.
