I had a nice exchange on ASR where I said the imersiv D-1 DAC had a break-in period of 150 hours. I had 2 brand new units with 0 hours on them, so I have some frame of reference. The enlightened ones on ASR told me it was just me getting used to the sound. Interestingly, imersiv D-1 now has posted on their website that they have started to run the unit for 160 hours before it is shipped.
Next the conversation went to on about the much cheaper RME DAC sounding the same as the imersiv D-1. Now this was because 3 engineers from an audio mag did a controlled blind experiment and the said it sounded the same. The folks on ASR have not heard the imersiv D-1, but I own it along with the same RME DAC that they used in the comparison. I have them on the same system and compared them via the same headphone amp and also 2-channel.
These 2 DACs sound so different that I have to question the hearing of anyone who says otherwise. I left it at that on ASR since you cannot account for hearing.
