I spent the night and this morning listening to the Cosmos/Agile combo, and I wonder why I own any other tables. What astonishes me every time I listen to this combination is the power bottom end and dynamic expression, yet the mid band and top end are so refined. The Scheu Das Laufwerk/Audiomods Series 6 12"/Kiseki Blackheart 1st Gen is expressive in the mid band and treble, and has a fine bottom end, but it is just not quite to the level as the SOTA or as complete an all round performer. While not a cheap set up by any means, I get the feeling that this combo is one of the better values to be had in the entry level of high end audio.
Sota Cosmos
I bought a second hand Cosmos with the Fountainhead plinth (series 1) and an SME V. I ask owners out there of older Nova's or Cosmo's, if they are satisfied with the original configuration or did they upgrade? The upgrade option at Sota to an Eclipse configuration is 5k to 6k (I think), which is much cheaper than buying new, but it's still a lot of money that could buy other brands. I am at a crossroads of sort.
I have other tables but I haven't compared them yet, so maybe you've owned these and have compared:

I only list these because in the near future I am going to have to pair down to two ir just one, hence the Cosmos question

@enobenetto Agree that it's a pretty drive from MSP through central and southern WI. I live not too far from Delavan (home of SOTA) and the storms and tornadoes have ravaged southeast WI and northern IL the last week like I've never seen before. Good luck with your new 'tables. |
On repairing your SP10. From your description of the problem, it seems your table may have a defective IC that is alone responsible for speed control, if it's a Mk3 rather than a Mk2. JP Jones of Fidelis Analog has re-created that chip using discrete components, and it fits right into the outboard motor control unit. Fidelis is out of business, but if you can contact JP, he may be able to help, at least by providing a chip which you could have installed elsewhere. Simple, really. I would start by trying to contact JP via the Fidelis Analog website, if it is still up. If it's a MK2, then I would still start by consulting JP. |
I hope that everyone in the area did ok. I didn't realize that you get storms like that all the way up there. While I traveled through there I had to stop for a burger and custard at Culver's, because I am from Culver City, in Los Angeles, CA. |
