Unable to hear back of the head sound effects

What would be the reason if you cannot hear sound effect behind the back of one's head?

I notice that if a system does not have enough treble, sound effects appears in front of you instead of behind the back.  I think my system is pretty neutral - not too warm not too bright.

My high frequency hearing is pretty bad so that could be the reason too.

I used to think the people who said they heard sounds from behind them on two channel stereo were delusional. I have read that on the Qsound recording Amused to Death by Roger Waters you can hear dogs barking behind you. On my system they are far right and left but even with my ears. Well, just recently on another CD, I heard it. It wasn't directly behind me, but it was to my right and clearly behind my listening position. After the song finished, I started it again to verify it did happen. It did!  I'm a believer!

@andy2 If you want you can try/buy my BAACh. It’s cool but I don’t use it. But yes it sure works. Got USB in yr. DAC? I’m in N Cal.

I suggest trying a surround sound system.  Once you do you’ll love how immersive a good mix is.  My old man ears have never been happier.  2 channel is still great but Dark Side of the Moon in atmos is amazing.

In 1978, I built the KEF R104 speakers. (MOODY BLUES) There was a track on "searching for the lost chord."It was titled "House of four doors." There was a break that sent the sound in the perfect circle of not just stereo, but a full circle in front of you. It amazed my mates no end. Now, It takes a circle from front to rear, like it is surrounding me. On H-phones, it does not work at all. It just goes back and fore.

Please try it, it will not take more than a few minutes.

All the best IAN.

CORRECTION, Just played it and

I drink too much, The track I was referring to was "Thinking is the best way to travel"
