That's 100% correct, don't buy from any random retailer, there is no way of knowing the quality of the tube.

Usually Chinese retailers on Aliexrpess, have B grade stock that presumably is for the domestic Chinese market.

I would go buy directly from Psvane factory online store.

I recently picked up a cheap el34 amp and really like it so far but interested in upgrading it.  The first set of el34 tubes I put in are the Horizon series. Looking to get a more tubey sound and the Ray Select el34’s peak my interest. Any of the Psvane lines offer more tubey experience than the Horizons? Any comparisons to the Ray Select?

Has anyone had a chance to compare the Summit series tubes to Ray Reserve tubes?

Hi!Thank you for your question.

First of all, for audio vacuum tubes, the hierarchy of our product line is as follows:
Basic:HIFI、UK
Selected:Treasure、HORIZON、ART
Premium:Legend、ACME、SUMMIT

The HORIZON series :
Launched 2024, holds special significance for us. It is the first product line where we applied our latest technologies capable of mass production. It is also our first fully direct-sale product, aimed at providing excellent sound quality at an accessible price point. Despite its relatively high production cost, the HORIZON series was designed to offer outstanding value and an official warranty system, aiming to improve our brand reputation and attract a wider user base.

ART Series: our mid-to-high-end product line, now in its third generation (ART TIII). It defines what we consider the reference standard for a warm, emotionally engaging sonic character.

The SUMMIT Series:

In fact, we typically launch an entirely new product series roughly every five years. In our most recent lineup, the hierarchy is: SUMMIT > ART TIII > HORIZON. In the previous generation, it was: ACME > ART TII > Treasure > HIFI. You can think of it as similar to the relationship between iPhone 16 Pro Max > iPhone 16 > iPhone SE. Specifically, the SUMMIT series is a comprehensive upgrade over the ACME series.

Regarding different versions of 6SN7 / CV181 tubes:

Relatively speaking, the most comparable high-end comparison is between the ART TIII and the SUMMIT.

The ART 6SN7 presents a soft and natural character in the high frequencies. It does not deliberately emphasize treble sharpness, so the sound comes across as very smooth and relaxed, without the cold-edged outline often associated with solid-state gear. This kind of treble performance is especially suitable for long listening sessions. For example, string ensembles in classical music and piano keystrokes in the upper register sound warm and pleasing, yet never harsh. That said, in the very top end, the ART is slightly more conservative in terms of fine detail, air, and openness, making it more suitable for listeners who value musicality over absolute resolution.

When upgraded to the SUMMIT 6SN7, this character is clearly expanded. While preserving the overall smooth and refined treble tonality, the SUMMIT noticeably improves extension and microdynamic detail, allowing the subtle “shimmer” in the upper frequencies to emerge more clearly. In areas such as the air around violin slides or the trailing overtones of female vocals, the SUMMIT sounds more lifelike and natural, with stronger spatial rendering and a more open soundstage.

As the most representative strength of the 6SN7, the midrange is further refined and elevated in the SUMMIT version. The ART already delivers the classic 6SN7 qualities of warmth, roundness, and fluidity, with a full-bodied presentation and an expressive, human touch. Whether reproducing baritone vocals or classical woodwinds, it conveys convincing texture and a strong sense of musical atmosphere. However, the SUMMIT 6SN7 not only retains this classic “old-tube” warmth, but also makes a clear improvement in clarity and resolution. Vocal images are more focused, layering is more distinct, and emotional nuance is rendered with greater delicacy. Especially in complex recordings, it avoids the slight haze that can occasionally appear with the ART, instead presenting the sound in a more defined and textured way. This improvement allows the SUMMIT to sound more precise and more gripping in highly transparent systems.

In the bass, the ART 6SN7 carries the traditional tube-style softness, with a touch of warmth and a naturally relaxed texture. Its bass does not extend particularly deep, but the quantity is moderate and the lines are soft rather than sharply drawn. This makes it well suited to chamber music or vocal recordings, where it does not overstate the low end, keeping the overall presentation comfortable and spacious. The upgraded SUMMIT 6SN7, meanwhile, preserves this soft musicality while significantly improving bass focus and control. It still does not aim for the rigid, punchy impact of solid-state amplification, but it provides more information in terms of detail, rhythm, and bass layering. For instance, in the plucked notes of a jazz double bass, it lets you hear more clearly the initial vibration of the string and the resonance of the body, rather than presenting the bass as a vague background presence. This gives the SUMMIT a stronger sense of support in dynamics and rhythm, and also makes the overall soundstage feel more complete and authoritative.

In summary, the ART 6SN7 is a neutral tube with a classic tube character, relaxed presentation, and gentle tonality. It is especially well suited to listeners who favor vocals and classical music, offering the rounded and musical charm of old-school hi-fi. The SUMMIT 6SN7, while preserving this classic tonal foundation, brings a comprehensive upgrade in resolution, detail retrieval, and frequency control. As a result, it delivers greater information density and expressive ability in modern audio systems. It is ideal for audiophiles seeking both musicality and technical performance, and stands out as a high-end dual triode that finds an excellent balance between vintage charm and modern precision.
