What is under the carpeting matters. If it is concrete... that is the best case scenario. The difference is unlikely to be night and day. slight tightening of the bass and imaging. |
+1 @ghdprentice and the others for decoupling. FWIW I have a 18x28 living room with very heavy shag and very dense padding. Last year I moved up to a large system. I had a thread regarding spiking Vs decoupling that you might read. I purchased a large speaker ( Tekton DI ) and experimented with spikes through the carpet into the cement. I then tried the speakers bare bottom on the carpet. Yes the speakers were wobbly and 1-2 degrees off plumb, but they sounded better than spikes. While this was going on I had my thread and based on the responses I received went with Townshend Seismic Podiums. I ordered them directly from Townshend in England. The difference was astounding and now I’m a firm believer. BTW my carpet is so thick it took about a week for the podium pods to settle in and I had to raise the platform about 1/2” more than they came so the platform did not rest on the carpet. Townshend provided extensive support and I even received a phone call from the rep ( he sounds like OZZY ). I used their link on AGON and used the MAKE OFFER feature. They were below suggested list and right at buy used price. They were packaged in two separate boxes to lower the import threshold and shipped DTL. They are absolutely worth the cost.
