What is under the carpeting matters. If it is concrete... that is the best case scenario.
The difference is unlikely to be night and day. slight tightening of the bass and imaging.
If you want a significant improvement in the sound, I recommend Townshend podiums for your speakers. I don't think I have ever heard of anyone that was not impressed when implementing these under speakers... including me.
