Should Room Acoustics be an Audiogon ‘topic’?

 

A topic/section on ROOM ACOUSTICS is waaaaay more important than a silly topic called CABLES.

Lots of $$$$s to be made with cables.  Not silly from that perspective. 

problem is if it gets too much traction it will negatively impact the business here by reducing need to buy and sell stuff.

Anyone following the videos of Jay and his two expensive listening rooms may have noticed that Jay announced that he is now a dealer for the extensive sound tuning products he has installed. $$$ and they aint cheap!!

While there is plenty of information on the Internet, sometimes it is confusing, incomplete, or downright wrong. It would be nice to have a place for like-minded individuals to share their thoughts on the subject and for people to easily get their questions answered, assuming they can tolerate the occasional abuse. Granted, one can just post it under miscellaneous audio, but then, as @hilde45 implies, everything can be considered to be under miscellaneous audio.
 

It also helps codify its importance, which is far greater than cables. It is not like we are asking for a separate topic section for fuses. This does not mean that fuses are not important, but they are far less important and influential than room acoustics. IMO

• The topic increases understanding of audio and helps sales, indirectly.
• Hobbyists and retailers sell acoustic treatments, which helps direct sales.
• Why should we make an argument for the short-term thinking of those just interested in profit? Shouldn’t we push for more discussion and let the profit makers push back? (Sorry -- I’m just not in the obey-in-advance club.)

AI is your friend when it comes to sorting through otherwise confusing information that is readily available to find what you need.  Gotta loose that 20th century mindset about how to do things and take advantage of the tools available today that were not back then when many of us including myself initially formed our opinions on this stuff.  I do very little relating to good sound today the way I did it 10-50 years ago.  To do so would be a huge handicap!!!

Room acoustics is a very well understood phenomenon, especially in pro audio circles.   Even "audiophiles" need to start with the fundamentals before going too esoteric. 

No need to rely on any single site, though this would be the right place to go if your solution must be branded, blessed, and priced accordingly as "high end" in order to be acceptable. 

Meanwhile anyone can already post and get any question they want answered, though politics is right out!

I’d be shocked if Audiogon actually did it, though it wouldn’t be the first time.  Sadly, one thing this site is not known for is keeping up with the times.  It's gotta be a rough business especially these days, but if deemed a money maker, it could happen.
