How Much Have You Spent On Cables Throughout The Years. I'm Shocked When I Checked.

I just checked the total cost of cables which I still own, all types of cables including spares. It's all recorded in an Excel sheet, actual price paid and not MSRP.

I'm shocked. It's a whopping sum of $22.4k. crying

I'm sure there would be people who have spent more. I have seriously overspent on cables though I still need to get another mains power cable before I call it a day, a rather costly one.

A lot and it was worth every penny considering the impact you get from good cables.

Problem seems to be that some people cannot afford it and seem to take an aggressive position that others shouldn’t buy it either because they decided it’s all a scam. For me funny that this always escalates with cables, but 200k amplifiers and DACs are ok…

@devinplombier

If folks were able to discuss cables and tweaks reasonably and intelligently, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

You hit the nail on the head!

If the cable companies (or anyone else for that matter) could intelligently explain why these cables sound better and justify the rediculious price then I would love to hear it. I don't think it's right to promote such a fantasy without some type of explanation. THEY DON"T !! Nothing! Nada!

On the other hand there is solid scientific evidence that there is NO audible benefit using these cables.

Having said that, if you choose to ignore the science and remain convinced that you can hear a difference... GREAT! Go for it. Spend all you want if it makes you happy. Recommending/convincing other people follow you down this unproven fantasy is not fair to them.

I fully realize you're not being intentionally dishonest in your belief but IF you have ANY evidence to the contrary I am very willing to listen. Hyperbole just doesn't cut it.

@tom2015

Some folks can't afford high-end cables yet they have zero issues with them or with the folks who buy them

Some folks can totally afford them yet they are highly skeptical of their value other than as audio jewelry (audio jewelry is totally fine in my book)

You're not the only one who wants to make this a class issue, but that is reductive and ignores a more complex reality.

Let’s start a GoFundMe for Amir to go visit Jaysaudiolab’s new duel listening rooms. Would go a long way towards settling this debate.

@devinplombier

I didn’t want to make it a class issue, but it becomes a disposable income issue or value for money discussion every time. Some people take an aggressive position to argue against something they can’t hear or don’t believe in. They cannot hear is ok, hearing is subjective. But they cannot sound different and someone should not spend money on it is simply misplaced in an audio cable forum. We are buying a sound signature not a cable. The material of the cable is obviously not worth the asking prices, but a Odin sound signature is unique and apparently they can charge that much for it.
