How Much Have You Spent On Cables Throughout The Years. I'm Shocked When I Checked.

I just checked the total cost of cables which I still own, all types of cables including spares. It's all recorded in an Excel sheet, actual price paid and not MSRP.

I'm shocked. It's a whopping sum of $22.4k. crying

I'm sure there would be people who have spent more. I have seriously overspent on cables though I still need to get another mains power cable before I call it a day, a rather costly one.

Not much compared to others on this site, but way more than I told my wife. 😆

I am sure I probably have that much invested in cables right now. But for the sound quality they are providing it is a good investment, as were those on previous versions of my system.

I am always conscious of the amount of sonic improvement I get per investment thousand (I'd be crazy to think in terms of individual dollars). Once I have carefully chosen my components, then I can get more out of them for incrementally less money with high end interconnects and cables. I then tend to stop upgrading for around ten years until I can afford to upgrade to the next level. Typically I upgrade wires before vibration control, after I have upgraded components.

Iv'e occasionally made a mis-step with cables... early in my career. But I know a few cable companies well and what they are compatible with so I don't have a cabinet full of new and not being used wires.

I bought, back in the 90's, Audioquest solid core speaker wires for $110. I thought that was overpriced at that time and I really heard NO difference in sound from plain old speaker wire. I also paid for two pairs of their PBJ interconnects. I still use these cables to this day so I'm under $200.

Yes, I tried connecting other high end cables with NO audible improvement so I'm happy with what I have even though I paid too much.

Doesn't anyone believe in Science? The recent test by ASR of cables costing $7 vs. cables at $4000 were exactly the same!! This is not that hard to understand.

i have found over the years that cables do sound different, especially interconnects... but also other cables

if one can’t hear the difference between cables, consider it a blessing rather than a curse, one is spared some effort, cost, and churn

but it doesn’t mean others don’t/can’t hear a difference though

happy easter to all

Maximizing the potential of your audio system should be the goal of any level of Audiophile. The constant whining and complaining about cost on Audiogon is very tiresome and non-constructive
