I hope I made good choices with new gear. Comments?

(Subtitled: Rabbit holes can run deep)

Synergy and such. It always worries me as I don’t have time for much trial and error.

Some of this appears in a recent thread elsewhere but it was getting off topic.

This all started out by me wanting a new TV. So I bought an LG 77" C5 OLED model. Well, then I decided I might as well redo the room it’s going in so that’s almost done.

Gee, then I figured I need a new DVD player, a 4K one. I bought a Panasonic DP-UB820-K for that. It reads like it’s a pretty good unit for picture and sound. Of course with the long cable run from the TV to the rack holding the audio gear and DVD player, I would need a 30’ or so optical HDMI cable. Also long audio cables from the TV to the rack.

My main audio system is also in the same room the TV is in. It’s mostly equipment I bought 36 years ago, save for the CD players. The amps are getting old and nobody around here works on them. So I purchased a pair of Cambridge Audio Edge M monoblocks. I figured I would use my old Harmon Kardon Citation 25 preamp with them. It’s compatible and still works. Nah, I ordered a Parasound Halo JC 2BP preamplifier today. Hey, those new components have XLR inputs and outputs! I bought some Audioquest Red River XLR cables for that.

No way am I going to just plug all of this stuff into wall outlets. I bought a pair of APC BR1500MS2 uninterruptible power supplies to protect against power surges and brownouts. These do not provide enough battery power to run for any length of time but we have an emergency standby generator that kicks in in less than 10 seconds so it’s not an issue.

With all the new gear, I need someplace comfortable to sit. I found a good set of wing chairs on sale on the ’net. Also got a nice small narrow table to put between them to hold remotes and a drink. My new gear also needs a nice place to sit so I also purchased a Salamander Designs rack for it.

New and much longer SP6 speaker cables are currently on the burn-in machine at Morrow Audio.

All of this started with wanting a new TV and it just kept going, LOL! Oh well. Did I miss anything? Did I get anything that’s not going to work well together?  I did as much research as I could and it was quite a bit. Ya never know though.

Any and all input is greatly appreciated! Thank you all.

@toddsyr - I’m a bucket-list audiophile who started from scratch about 10yrs ago. Since I was 55 I didn’t want to start at the bottom. So for years of intensive research, trying to demo the best sound I could find at audio shows and audio stores then try to duplicate the sound at home within budget. I find component comparisons invaluable in making  price/performance value judgments. I constructed a ridiculously large spreadsheet with many tabs.

From demoing many speakers, there are many that sound great, but very few “resonates” with me - makes you stop, sit down, and the music pulls you in.  This is what I meant when I say the preferred Sonics is subjective, that it’s best to demo yourself to find what you like at your price point.

Thank you all for the latest posts. I have to keep this reply rather brief as my work day was interrupted for a couple hours while I straightened out a big mess.

My Parasound preamp was ordered. Long story short, the vendor couldn't get that model anymore. Parasound is out of stock and I'm told they don't plan on restocking those. Okay, buy one from somewhere else. Good luck! I finally found the last new one probably anywhere at Audio Advisor. Caleb there was a big help!

Better outlets. Definitely in the not so distant future.

Streaming. I'm just not into it enough. Maybe when I have more free time after retirement.

Yes, Mike, I mostly play CDs and the occasional cassette through a Harmon Kardon TD4800. That's mostly for some old Zep bootlegs. Satellite radio once in a great while just to see if I hear something I forgot about but gotta have. No turntable.

My speakers. I like 'em, I'm keeping 'em. Had one pair redone a while back.

Whole house sure protection. Definitely looking into.

I appreciate each and every one's input but I'm shot. Have a good night folks.

@toddsyr  if you are dead set on keeping the speakers, Then you should really be thinking about getting the best dac you can afford for the money. everything else, I think in your setup, is perfect. But dacs are really important for CD playback and streaming ( even though you don't think you're going to get into it very far . You probably will).

A CD player is essentially a DAC+transport in a single box.

In the last 10 years digital audiophile DAC Sonics has progressed greatly.   Although some CD Players are exceptions and can be competitive usually at higher price points, the stand alone DAC will typically significantly outperform internal CD player DACs.

+1 DAC upgrade. Perhaps the OPs CD player can be used as a transport?
