Trinnov Altitude 16 vs Anthem AVM 90

In the dept of the "The Perfect is the Enemy of the Good", I am going to upgrade my SSP from Yamaha CX A5200 to Trinnov Altiture 16 or Anthem AVM 90.

The obvious difference is ~$20,000 for the Trinnov vs ~$7500 for the Anthem.

By most accounts the Trinnov will sound better for both movies and music, but the difference may be incremental rather than transformative.  The Trinnov also is complex, requires professional installation and calibration and recalibration is any other units (i.e. subs) are upgraded.  Then there is the delay in booting and delay in input switching with the Trinnov.  The day to day use would favor the Anthem.

My room is nearly perfect acoustically, 16'X17', with well placed speakers.  It is a 7.2.4 setup.  There is no way to increase the subs to 4.  The speakers are all Sonus Faber, Serafinos for front LR.

I have theater bypass and spend more time listening to the 2 channel system. Simaudio 891 and a 761 pair bridged as monoblocks. Iconoclast and Straight Wire cabling.

Which would you buy?

I went from an Anthem AVM 70 to a Trinnov Altitude 16. Despite the cost difference, I would do it all over again. I'm a 2-channel first person and only use my Trinnov when watching television or movies, not for 2-channel.

if budget is the issue along with space, then I suggest the anthem and take the rest of the money and start stacking subwoofers!

I just upgraded my miniDSP SHD to a Trinnov Amethyst. It is a much more robust product (as it should be based on the price differences). But if you’re considering upping your 2-channel game, I am here to say it is well worth the cost and effort of learning new software. By the way, the Amethyst replaced an Audio Research Ref6se (preamp), Holo Audio May KTE (DAC), Holo Audio Red (streamer) and miniDSP SHD (room correction and active crossover). I would also say that Trinnov has real people providing phone support on the ground here in the US (for all Trinnov products) to help you set it up and get it working in less than 30 minutes.
