To all Klipsch Heritage fans

Likely going to purchase Klipsch Forte IV. Would opt for Cornwall IV but space may or may not be a factor. If not, then it’s the Corns.

Two part question: if I have to opt for the Forte IV I’ll be happy. Question is: how many folks out there find placing these 1’ or less from the front wall satisfying? I’ve seen a ton of YouTube videos and most people claim they had to pull them out a good 3-4 ft out; however, the majority of those reviewers had bare wood floors, no wonder, the bass must have very boomy. I have thick carpet so I know it will tame it down significantly. I prefer to set them up along the long wall so I have little wiggle room to pull them out; on the other hand, placing them along the short wall will give me 3-4 ft of play from the rear wall.

Question two; The Cornwall IV. I can get these only if I opt for my system and tv along the short wall. What say anyone regarding Klipsch Cornwall vs Crites Speaker CS Style B Cornwalls? I’ve got no problem putting wood veneer on them myself. The Crites crossovers look impressive and higher end than Klipsch (sorry Klipsch, but it does). Thoughts welcome. Cheers and thanks.

I’ve never heard a Volti but have owned Cornwall 4 a few years ago. It was a fun speaker. In my opinion at current 7k price it’s overpriced. The Volti by all accounts by reading user reviews are very well liked. I’m not really a measurement guy but the Stereophile measurements for the Volti Rival a few years ago are pretty horrid. Like pretty damn bad. The Forte 3 is not near as bad measurement wise.

Many acclaim the Cornwall IV as one of the best speakers in its price range. You can also get any kind of finish you want on it if you have a dealer who knows how to order it.

I would not get a rear-ported speaker or one with a passive driver (Forte) and put it that close to the wall in a main listening space.  The Cornwall is obviously designed for that.  You might want to consider something from the Heresy line before they added the rear port.

I have upgraded a couple of sets of speakers with Crites crossovers and honestly could not tell any difference.  The Crites crossovers are designed to retain the sound of the stock crossovers.  If a part in one of the original crossovers was bad it might be a worthwhile upgrade, otherwise I would spend money elsewhere.

Having said all that, you might call me a hypocrite, because I have a pair of Quartets in my bedroom that are placed just a few inches from the wall.  I would not describe them as boomy, but I never turn them up very loud and the room has thick carpeting and my bed is right in front of them. They are there so that I can hear music while I'm getting ready for work in my adjacent bathroom, not for dedicated listening. 

If you can find a pair of Epic series Klipsch CF1-4 speakers, those are front ported and IMHO sound better than the Legacy series. I had a pair of CF-3s and still somewhat regret selling them. There are three versions of the CF series, and the first version is regarded as the best by many. I had version 3 and thought those were fantastic.

I have Cornwall IVs on the short wall with no issues. You get used to the size quickly!

I do not believe that carpeted floors behave any differently from bare floors when it come to bass.
