I’m hoping to pick it up this weekend if all audio repair stars align. I’ll post here when it’s in my possession.

At the bottom of page 2, where Parker provides a photo of his on/off switch inside of his A308...at the very bottom you will notice a battery (or the side of it) wrapped in green shrink wrap. It's like an oval capsule and you can see the top of it. You can even see some corrosion along the edge of the battery. Not sure how parker missed it. Had his photo panned out a bit more, it would have been evident to all of us. Back on page 2. Three weeks ago! A380 had the battery placed elsewhere. I assume it had flash memory as the A380 was the upper tier offering of the A300 line at that time..in the early 2000's. That is an A308 control board in parker's photo, as evidenced by the fact you can see the battery and while the buttons on front of the A3 and A308 were in different geographic positions, the battery location was identical. Look the same; so if you use my A3 link from earlier you can see what the battery looks like. The battery does not need replaced, per se. I guess, if there is a replacement available, the tech has taken that route. Does not remedy the fact that the battery he will replace it with will eventually have the same issue. The problem still exists over time. I have read where you could just snip it out and go without a battery. User would just be without memory settings. My guess is that Parker just did not do due diligence and pay attention to details when surveying a board that is suspect. I am pretty sure that over 50% of issues that present themselves in old electronics are visible by - maybe not by the naked eye - but with a magnifying glass, if you got some age on you. You know, if you've seen everything! Corrosion on a battery is evident via the camera in parker's photo, kind of minor, so hence intermittent issues? Probably was effin up the circuit it kind of controlled. Bottom line, Parker missed key parts of care for his aging amp. He rushed his inspection and diagnosis, and did not provide enough fodder for others, like us, who are here to help but have limited information. We could have saved him from the bitter cruel technician that will put in a new battery, which he will probably have to get on ebay, to extend his old problem and charge the customer $200. Figure 2 weeks. Three weeks if he takes lunch. My professional diagnosis on Parker is that he is likely has ADHD (called an excitable boy back in my day) and sprints to the finish, adding flair and a deprecating disposition in order to Garner help. But in the meantime, completely forgets to do his homework, which he may or may not know as due at the time. That's my opinion. And, I take a statin each morning. |
This is the battery you need, $22.95. Last one available in USA. https://www.ebay.com/itm/185748089723 I am sure your tech is on it. |
