Bluesound died - is Wiim a good alternative?

1. Nano > wiim pro+, both digital out and int. DAC; both on 5V/3A LPS or IFi ipower X;

2. Comparing Nano and Ultra is trickier (not on the same footing) because Ultra does not have access to LPS unless you mod it with, say, Teddy Pardo LPS or others.  Nevertheless, with this difference:

Nano w/ LPS > Ultra, both digital out and int. DAC.

3. Nano w/ LPS ~ Ultra w/ good DDC (f.g. Gustard U18).  Apparently, this got to be digital out.  But still, Nano w/ LPS sounds smoother without much hint of digital glare.

(*I have repeated this several times and sort of tired of it.  Many others could testify this as well.  If you are not convinced, that is fine and continue enjoying music with Wiim.  Appreciate the music listening without worrying about the equipment.)

@lanx0003  Thank you for clarification. 

My Ultra is connected to a built-in DA2 DAC via USB out.  I expected to hear some difference between that method - or using the Wiim's internal DAC connected via an RCA cable to the same amp.  But it sounds all the same to me.  

However, my chat gpt is also saying that my streamer / dac combo is the weakest link, so I'm researching what I'm doing wrong.

@vvvvvv6 -- I wouldn't get too revved up as to what ChatGPT has to say.  All it's going to do is regurgitate what it's accumulated from scanning comments available on the internet.  And that's without even getting into those cases where AI has just made things up -- not to hard  to find news stories where a lawyer has been reprimanded by a judge for submitting false case law they obtained by using AI instead of doing their own research. 

@mlsstl - thanks, ya, I don’t have any illusions as to what AI is and isn’t currently. But it was a little disappointing after reading all the DA2 praise and how some folks just had to update their amps to get the DA2 module - and not hear any difference between that and the Ultra DAC.
But perhaps it’s a sign that my ears are at full capacity with the Ultra - and there’s no reason to spend on equipment anymore!

@cheeg - I didn't go back through the whole thread; so forgive me if anything is redundant. I had the BlueSound Node 2,  which didn't always work... especially with HiRes files. Tried to practically give it away. No takers.

I replaced it with WiiM Pro Plus and have been very satisfied with the set-up. It is hard-wired via audio grade ethernet cable to ENO Network Filter to WiiM Streamer to Bifrost 2 DAC. The sound is great, and it is basically trouble free operation.
