amp I bought 3 days ago not powering on - electrical engineer advice wanted

I bought a used Musical Fidelity A380 in good condition. Played it every day, worked fine.

Today it did not turn on. There were no sign of failure yesterday. Could it be a fuse or power supply?

I will call him tomorrow.

Did the tech give you a time estimate? He said he was ordering a battery. Is the battery 2 days or 2 weeks or 2 months out?

Don’t make a nuisance out of yourself. He’ll let you know when your amp is ready.

Wondering when was the last time you’ve dealt with a local repair shop…sounds like never…

There is a great article from down under on the A308 battery issue:

https://liquidaudio.com.au/musical-fidelity-a3-amplifier-corrosion-repair/

The corrosion should have been apparent on the top of the battery as it is in the photos of the article. Parkergetdean took a photo of the area but left out the battery which was nearby.

The tech in the article was able to get the A308 in working condition again. The control board was salvaged which will be key with parkers unit as well. The unit works without a battery and because of that cannot remember the previous settings. Not a big deal. Article did not say how much the tech charged.

My guess is that one would have to source a disposed unit, or one that can be purchased for parts if the control board is not redeemable.

Got Hope?

I'd camp out at the door of his shop, that way he'll get tired of lifting his walker over you every morning.

Do you have a sleeping bag?
