Onkyo A-50 vs Buckeye Purifi 1ET6525SA

I’ve always liked Onkyo stuff...still use their A-9555 (15 years old) integrated in secondary system, and Onkyo receivers in basement and garage, both 25 years old and all work flawlessly... was happy to see them return with a new set of products...

Just wanted to let you know i ordered the Onkyo P-80 and M-80 today. I'll let you know my thoughts when I get it and hook it up.

I tried the P80 from Crutchfield. I liked it, but I found a Buchardt I 150 used from the music room (TMR) which I like better as a preamp. Ended up sending the Onkyo back. I found the P 80 a little bright up top with less bass resolution than the Buchardt. These two units were on my shortlist because I run dual subs which I integrate with my custom built towers. If you’re looking to save money, I would peruse the options on TMR. You’ll get a lot of bang for your buck. My plan is to run the Buchardt using its internal amp until Galion releases its class d amps. I traded in a McIntosh MA5300 to TMR to finance my purchase, which gives you an idea of how much I liked the unit. Just a side note: unless you plan on using bass management control to roll off your main speakers into your subs I think you can get a better sounding preamp than the P 80. In person, the P80 does look stunning.

I don't plan to run the sub with my speakers for music. My speakers are true full range. The sub will be for movies and tv. My speakers are very neutral as well so I'll be able to tell immediately if the amp is bright. Hopefully not!
