amp I bought 3 days ago not powering on - electrical engineer advice wanted

I bought a used Musical Fidelity A380 in good condition. Played it every day, worked fine.

Today it did not turn on. There were no sign of failure yesterday. Could it be a fuse or power supply?

@devinplombier ,

I believe the conversation went something like this;

I said "maybe a protection circuit?"

He said: "no, if it was that, it would NEVER turn on".

I said: "OK, sounds good, thank you".

He said: "Probably just the power switch. Why didn’t you just fix it yourself?"

I said: "Because I’m mind bogglingly inept."

He said: "How so?"

I said: "Well, I have to sit down to chew gum and my shoes are Velcro. Laces are hard."

He said: "I see. Um, what’s that string you’re holding?"

I said: "The other end is attached to my front door so I can find my house."

He said: "OK, then. Tell you what, you bring my favorite coffee and  donut every morning and I’ll be sure to take the cover off July latest."

I said: "Fair deal! I better buy more string..."

😃

Next decision - at what price is it not worth fixing...especially since it works fine once you can turn it on...hopefully an easy and relatively inexpensive fix...good luck

I use paint, not a string. I am not an idiot.

@jl35 he told me the flat/minimum fee. It was not cheap. So yes, I am very nervous about that as well.

But it's all worth it as long it entertains the Man of the Kárpátok.

Do you mind mentioning where this shop is and what is called? Sounds like a place in Costa Mesa I went to many years ago. Hope he takes good care of you.
