$5000 living room speakers for classical music

- Roon/Qobuz WiFI ($28/month)

- miniDSP SHD power.  (brain, $1500)

- Focal Aria Evo X No.1. (2-ways speakers, $$2600)

- Dual subwoofers: SVS SB-1000 Pro  ($1000)

This setup could be a best of $5000 reference level performance in living room?

Now for something completely different. I've owned dozens of speakers, mostly great. I used to be an audio dealer and have listened to hundreds of manufacturers and models, some great. The speaker that I think best reproduces the sound of a live acoustic concert venue are the various Shahanian omnidirectional; speakers. I have a pair of Obelisks that were completely refurbished by Shahanian and I was blown away by how good classical music was reproduced.

They do have some limitations. They are power (current) hungry. They cannot be placed close to the front or side walls. And They do not image like an audiophile speaker (but neither does a live concert). You can purchase a new pair but there are plenty of them available on the used market for under $3,500. I prefer the Mk I version that has been refurbished but most seem to prefer the Mk II version. Small differences.

If these don't float your boat but the omnidirectional idea intrigues you then look at a pair of Ohm Walsh speakers. The requirements are pretty much the same as for the Shahanians. I have also had great results with the Larsen 4/6/8 or 9 speakers. These are very different in that they can (must) be places directly against the wall, preferably the long side of your room. Imaging is different, like a wall-sized musical picture but also very realistic, IMO.

If you actually attend live concerts I would recommend

Buying used you could do way better than that for 5k.

My 2nd system is all used and I have about $1,700 into it. MSRP is over $7,500. Newest edition as of yesterday is factory built CSS 2TDX for $875 about 2 years old. With tax $3,550 new.
