Thiel Owners

Guys-

I just scored a sweet pair of CS 2.4SE loudspeakers. Anyone else currently or previously owned this model?
Owners of the CS 2.4 or CS 2.7 are free to chime in as well. Thiel are excellent w/ both tubed or solid-state gear!

Keep me posted & Happy Listening!

Jeff - Gary at Coherent Source Service is your resource.

My comments are for historic background. Eminence made the woofers for the models 01, 01a, 01b, 03 and 03a. That was their 10KPHG8GX which was later replaced by their 10101. The T-S parameters of both are  unknown to me, but it is a drop-in replacement. Eminence was the first North American Klippel user; the 10101 was an early Klippel assisted design.  A peculiarity of the model 03 is that it has both a port and equalizer and the EQ was an upcharge option. Based on reflex performance we decided to drop the port and have sealed bass on the model 3 and upward. The later CS2 incorporated reflex bass for lower cost. Reversion to reflex bass in the 3.6 is controversial to me. That's another story.

Harry Pearson himself favorably reviewed the 03, concluding with "this is a product from a young designer whom I predict will become a driving force." I paraphrase from memory.

The CS3 (and onward) had a Vifa woofer. My recently acquired 03a pair has Vifa model 10MD-19-08 (8 ohm) woofers which was the CS3 woofer (in my memory.)See what Gary says and may have.

Here is the closing summary from our 1978 literature.

Hi Tom, Thanks very much for your response and information on the early models that had the Eminence 10" woofer and that the CS3 did not.

I did contact Gary and he indicated that he did not have the correct woofer or a substitute that he could recommend. He did say that he had contacted Eminence in the past to see if they could provide any specifications on to 10101, but they could not.

I did not realize the EQ was an option on the 03. I thought it was likely standard. I'm going to check with my upholstery guy and see if he may have one and forgot when I bought the speakers from him. Gary was going to check and see if he could find a schematic on it for me (and others). He did mention that I could use a standard EQ and likely accomplish the same thing as the early EQ's were fairly simple.

I searched for "10KPHG8GX" and got no results. Of course, it was likely long out of production before the internet. When I searched for "Vifa 10MD-19-08" I only got results for a 4-1/2" midrange driver Vifa K10MD-19-08.
