Amir visit to Mike Lavigne place 2017

I happened to read Amir impression of Mike system during his visit unfiltered and no sugar coating.i like it .He seem very honest about it. Though I don’t always agree with Him.

I heard very tall speakers that look like Mike's at YG Acoustics in Denver. Powered by incredible Burmaster amps and other equipment of a similar stature.

Something Amir said in his post resonated with my experience – giant tower speakers, aimed at me, pinning me down with movie-theater-like power and scale – just doesn't do it for me. It's almost a Disney ride, it's so dramatic. But not musical.

I've been to Mike's a couple of times.  His room is incredible and I've never experienced anything that comes close.  You will never comprehend how much information there is in recorded music until you experience something like his system.  The other important takeaway is how important the room itself is.

Yes, when you first see the speakers, it's physically imposing.  They serve a purpose, and that purpose, along with the room itself, everything in it, and beyond (electrical) is to let as much of the music through as possible.  What comes out is incredible detail, imaging, and clarity.  It's hard to describe, but it's like having only ever seen grainy black and white television for your entire life and then experiencing an Imax screen for the first time.

Mike is a very kind and gracious host and loves to educate and share his knowledge and experience.  I walked away with some concepts that I was able to apply to my modest system that improved my listening experience and didn't cost anything.

He has an incredible music selection as well.

I really don't understand Amir and the ASR cult.  They seem to think that anything that costs a lot is "bad" or a waste of money and that anything cheap that has what they consider good measurements is "good".  They seem unable to set aside that bias and use their ears and brains and heart and just listen and enjoy.

There are a select few people in the world that have a passion for something and pursue it in a way that puts them at the cutting edge of what's possible.  That's how I think of Mike.

Put Mike Lavigne system in a non dedicated acoustic room like a a huge living room and compare it with his actual room...

It is the only test that interest me ...  smiley

Or better, put the same system in a room designed acoustically for it in an improved way...( i dont say that Lavigne actual room is bad here but it can be improved as everything can )

Acoustics/psycho-acoustics rules audio not so much  the speakers size and price or the amplifiers design...

When you visit his listening space, he talks about his room, not the gear so much.  He does of course explain what the different components are and talks about why he chose the gear he has, but where most people talk about their "system", he talks about his "room".  If you google, you can find an in-depth overview of the construction of the room.  He's taken a very holistic approach to building his listening space and spent countless hours perfecting it.
