Sound becomes less open/smeared (less detailed)
Hi all.
Strange phenomena but when I play music (and leave my set on for days) the sound becomes less detailed (smeared). I know it's the pre amp (Bryston BP25).
After switching it off and then switching it on (after waiting a couple of minutes) the sound is more open and detailed.
It's strange because I also have the general experience when listening to stuff which has been turned on not long ago, sound is a little harsh and grainy at first. With use it gets more fluid and smooth. But my experience with this preamp is many times the opposite (but just after many hours).
Can someone explain this behaviour?
@easystreamer : yeah newer generation is truly balanced. But I like to try to keep using the BP25. Therefore I am asking for experiences and clues about the deteriorating sound. I suspect the aging electrolytics but it also may have to do with stability of the circuit (voltage stabilization and overheating)? |
@vhond I had both the BP-25 (w/MPS-1) and the BP-19. It was a big difference. To your question, bad capacitors can cause all kinds of weird issues. They have a definite life expectancy and when they go, they cause frustrating and inexplicable symptoms that differ from situation to situation. You can detect bad capacitors by taking off the cover and looking at them. You will see "crud" oozing from the tops, also known as "bulging capacitors".
