MSB Technology -- the "best" digital can get?

I don’t go to hifi shows or high end salons, and have never personally heard very high-end DACs (or CD players).

But the MSB Technology Sentinel DAC, at $375K USD, might be worth a listen.

There is a 2025 factory tour video of MSB on YouTube. They spend a lot of time on milling and using space-age machines for pick-and-place, etc. But there is absolutely no mention of the discrete DAC models MSB has been "perfecting" since the early 90s.

I have no idea  whom the Sentinel is intended for other than top CEOs, billionaires, et. al.

And does it really, sonically approach, say, a $10K vinyl or open-reel system?

Sticking with the question: "MSB Technology -- the "best" digital can get?" regardless of price, I'll offer my perspective based on listening that I've done before I purchased an MSB Discrete and then upgrade to the MSB Premier.

I had a Bryston BDA-3 (AKM chips)- a great value for the money and after 7 years I decided in 2024 to see what was out there and if I would hear an improvement.  I auditioned the DCS Bartok, MSB Discrete, Weiss and a couple of others (all around the $10-13K range).  The MSB sounded much more natural, 3 dimensional/soundstage, smooth, detailed with a solid clear bass.  On poor recordings it help up better than the others.  The Weiss is an ESS DAC and don't like these chips - much too sharp for me.

So, if you're in the market, take a listen to the MSB. One other brand my friend raves about is Berkeley Audio Design.  I haven't heard, but trust his judgement.

If anyone has their print or PDF copy of Stereophile, pull out March 1993, and take a look at Tom J. Norton's review of about four CDPs. all going head to head .

MSB Technology Silver CD player , $2800. Uses Philips multi-bit chipset . Came out on top, sonically,  but measured the worse.

Yes, it's the best you can get. I sold my Berkley Audio and bought the MSB Cascade. Night and day difference! Is it better than analog?? Different.. depending on my mood is what I gravitate too., You'll never see the sentinel at any shows. They are sold out for quite a while I believe. I believe the first one is being delivered this week. It's out of my budget anyway.. I don't Understand all the snarky comments. You buy what you can afford and enjoy it. It's all about The Music not what something costs.

MSB Technology Sentinel DAC, at $375K - It’s same a noise monster with very little musicality. Simply, unlistenable to my ears.

I listen these.  Chris De Burgh - Lady In Red, live recording

WT amp ultra ive recording - whooping $900 all-in-one (streamer+DAC+ amp).

After listening above, hearing MSB dacs below lets me know these sounds are very wrong.   YG Acoustics 3 Series / MSB

Saying digital would ‘wipe the floor’ with analog is like saying golf is a better sport than baseball. Two different presentations appealing to different sonic characteristics.
