Male DIN Phono Cable for Ortofon RF 297 tonearm?
I picked up a very nice Garrard 401 on a custom plinth with the Ortofon RF-297 tonearm already mounted. Everything looks great but it came with a very old and crappy looking phono cable that I thought I would replace with one of my nice silver phono cables. But I was surprised to discover the RF-298 requires a Male 5 pin DIN cable with what seems like an obsolete connection. I have had no luck finding a replacement cable that might be of higher quality and I wondered if anybody had any suggestions. Photos of the end of the tonearm and the cable it came with are attached.

Cardas make both male and female 5-pin DIN connectors, and I think you can still buy either from Michael Percy Audio. All you need is to know how to solder or to know someone else who knows how to solder. Or you can probably commission someone to make you a male DIN terminated cable with RCAs or XLRs at the other end. Check eBay too. |
Yannis Tome sells custom cables with the Ortofon Din ( large ). https://www.shop.back-promo.co.uk or here

@dover that looks like a great suggestion. Thank you. |
@lewm Thanks for that suggestion. I have soldered XLR and RCA jacks and typically find it very frustrating trying to get the incredibly small gauge wires to stay in the little pin/cups long enough to be soldered but that link to a source of the connectors is appreciated. |
