Any good techs in the Chicago area to replace a Philips CDM12.4?

I've got a Resolution Audio CD-50 that won't read discs, just getting the "Err" error message when I put in a CD.  These are longer live Grateful Dead CDs, so I'm wondering if this transport has a 'limit' on how long of CDs it will read?  If I put in something in the 45-60 minute disc range, it reads just fine.

Is this just the limitation of these older 90's laser sleds?  They just won't read anything above 74 minutes?

If not, I'd be interested in finding someone that can replace the older laser in this player to keep it rolling a bit longer.

Thanks!  Mark

CDM 12.4 is an older transport. It was designed to read CDs up to 74 minutes. Anything beyond that - or CD-R of any length - may or may not work but should not be expected to.

On the other hand, if your transport used to read 80 min CDs but no longer does, or if it reads 45 min CDs but not 60 min, that can most likely be serviced. It’s doubtful the laser pickup is the culprit though, a mechanical issue is more likely.

That’s what I was thinking, the CDM12.4 mechanism predates the move from 74 to 80 minute discs and it’s a physical limitation.  It’s just a bummer because I wanted this spinner for my GD discs with the PCM63-K and HDCD decoding.  Ah well, I do have other/newer transports I can use.

Thanks all!
