devinplombier - Thanks for your honest and respectful response. As I've probably already noted, I to have listened to many very high end products over the years costing as much as $150K+, and like to think I've owned a few (Vandersteen, Sequerra and Martin Logan to mention a few). Some of my preferences have changed over the years, but I still want to close my eyes and have the components, specifically the speakers, disappear and leave me with just the music and the sheer aural bliss that I'm listening for.
Tekton Double Impact SE vs Kef R7 Meta
Hello everyone, I’m looking for some help with my eventual upgrade path. I currently have a pair of Kef Q350 being powered by a Willsenton R8. I enjoy the clarity, detail, and instrument separation of the Kef’s, but they can be a bit polite. Soundstage is great as well, tonal balance is good as well. I’ve been looking at the R7 metas figuring they have similar sound characteristics as the Q350s just with more refinement and overall better sound, but I realize the Willsenton might be a bit underpowered (especially in triode mode) to really make them sing. Tekton is a name that keeps coming up in my research. I realize they can be a bit of a controversial choice do to some of the issues they’ve had with reviewers. All I really am concerned with is, how do they actually sound. I really want to keep that clarity that the KEFs have. We listen primarily to rock, metal, and electronic music. My room is rather large. It’s a 19’x 39’ great room (living room, dining room, and kitchen.
I’d like to hear from people that have had experience with either of these speakers with similar amplification and what their thoughts are. I’m also open to other speaker suggestions. Thank you!

Neither do I. However, that beryllium driver upgrade is $11,750 - more than the speakers themselves. In fact the $10K (base) ulbricht you speak of top out at $26K all decked out. They better sound good! But what happened to the giant-slayer value proposition?

@devinplombier , so what speakers are you running ? |
For my reference speakers focal magico q7,kharma ect it's only 10% of the price.in my book that's a giant slayer. Full of the best speakers satori makes and sound great play soft or loud. Even rockports are expensive. This is the glory of audio we live in. A great day of choices. I bought all my reverence equipment used < 50 % off met alot of nice audiophiles in my travels past 2 years wandering across America living in a van by the river eating government cheese1😃 |
devinplombier - i did only the single HF Be driver upgrade. At the time I bought mine in 2019 that was a $500 upcharge. That plus the grill and crossover upgrade cost me about $5,250. Well worth it at the time in my opinion. Today, 7 years later, that same configuration would be $6,185 (17.8% or 2.5%/Yr more). I’ve never looked at it that way, but that is very good for 7 years later, as 2.5%/Yr doesn’t even match the standard inflation rates. I’ve seen other prices increase at significantly higher rates over that time period. Still a GIANT SLAYER at just over $6K. |
