It's hard to let things go; it's good to let things go

Just let a pair of speakers go, and while I really loved them, a local person is going to love them. We enjoyed listening together and I know they'll go to a good home.

My parents used to say that "A good day is a day you get rid of something." I see the point better, now that I'm older.

The "loss" part of it is offset by the feeling of lightness at perhaps trying something else without berating myself for "stockpiling."

What's the best thing you ever got rid of? Was it hard to let go of?

I sold what was considered in the UK to be the ideal 70s front end.

SME 2000 plinth system

The footprint of this mammoth system was huge. Okay to have it set up in a hi-fi room, but in a living room it became an elephant in the room. The SME plinth and perspex lid was designed to accept the widest and deepest turntables, plus the tallest longest arms.

l often see the same system for sale on eBay. One again this week on a “buy it now” a short 17 miles trip away. I have previously often thought, shall l go for it this time?

The nostalgia trip doesn’t last very long before l rethink, “where the  £#€¥  would l put it?”

The best thing I ever let go of was my 1965 Stratocaster.  Sold it last year and made enough money to buy 3 newer guitars.  (I don't follow the rule of disposing of one thing for every thing I take in.)

In a more audiophile context, the best thing I disposed of was probably my Magneplanar 3s, that I sold when I bought my Apogee Duettas.  The Maggies were nice for smaller-scale acoustic music, but lacked the bass that the Duettas have in spades.

Nearly every time I've sold something, I end up missing it later. My problem is that I get emotionally attached to things. I still have my vintage system from the 80s (but a modern system too). I really do need to downsize at some point---just not sure what or when. Thanks for the post. Cheers!

Can Audiogon create a "free" category in which members can post stuff they want to get rid of / give away for free?
