Another "kinda-newbie" head scratcher

No matter what Phonostage I use, no matter which cartridge or cables, I get an annoying distortion sound from my speakers kind of like the sound of AM in between stations if anyone here is old enough to remember that sound. Doesn't happen on the digital side.

Any ideas?

Thanks! Since I bought it new and ordered from one of the reputable audio websites I will return it for a replacement after trying some of the remedies afforded you don’t work, albeit being a slightly different problem or give up on using a phono preamp and try running the turntable through my system’s primary preamp, which is a McIntosh C2600.

@gjfalls MP 100 is sensitive to placement. I borrowed it from my buddy and had to move it about 3 feet away from my amplifier as it was affected by EMI and hummed. Make sure it’s at lest 3ft away from any network components as well. But the high pitch noise could indicate issues with the unit’s power supply or other internal components. Good luck.

@audphile1 I got the long fiber run. Digital side is up and running. Sounding better than ever. I'll reinstall the Sutherland tomorrow and post my results then.

Gjfalls , if the high pitched noise coming from your Mac does not contaminate the music coming from speakers, then it is likely of an entirely different cause, compared to the OP’s issue. Most likely a bad component inside your preamp. If the MP100 uses tubes, could be a very microphonic tube.i
