The Music Room is Slipping

I cannot recommend doing business with them any longer. They DEEPLY lowball you when you sell them gear and then forget all about the mass profits they made on you when you are looking to buy something from them, They offer to stand behind a purchase, yes... but the reality is that it is all about max profits on used gear and lack of any sort of support or consideration going forward. They are nothing more than a pawnshop for audio gear and I am done with them.

i could never recommend doing business with them. ive bought from them, but i sure as hell wouldnt recommend it.

I just sent a piece to them for consignment. So far a smooth process.

They told me what they would buy it for versus a range that I could get on consignment based on their experience with this piece. I chose consignment.

They sent me a label for shipping, I sent them the piece, they sent an email saying they got it and what to expect next in the process.

Very professional communications and actions so far.

I've never sold to TMR but I did visit with my friend when I was in CO a few years ago. It's quite a large well run business and CO real estate ain't cheap. They took great care of my friend buying and I'd highly recommend them on that basis.

It seems to depend on the item.  I find some of the products to be priced close to retail - way too high, but other prices are fair.  The market will set the price and if they are too high, just buy from another seller.  They are entitled to a premium because they do test the gear and have a return policy and are not going to disappear with your money.  Do they still lower their prices over time if a product does not move?

I have bought multiple items from TMR over the past 12-18 months (items ranging from $1,000 to $9,000+) and had excellent experiences. Most of those involved trading gear of mine and their pricing seems very fair, considering what they are providing: speed, security and free shipping on the gear you send to them.  I am about to send them some speakers (mint condition Revel F226Bes, in case anybody is looking for a pair in top notch shape) and other gear on a pallet and they sent me all the necessary packing material and straps and would have even sent me the pallet, had I not already had one — all on their dime. And they have worked very hard to arrange the freight pick up at a time and place that is most convenient for me.  (It is interesting to me that they wanted the speakers sent back on a pallet, even though they weigh less than the UPS ground maximum; I think it is because they want the gear to have the best chance of arriving undamaged; that costs them more (which of course they have to make up elsewhere), but ultimately it gives me comfort when I  in the reverse position, that is buying from them, that they do what they can to make sure the gear they sell is in good shape.)

Yes, of course you get only 33-50% of the price you’d expect to get if you sold the gear yourself on Audiogon or USAM, and you have to weigh for yourself how you value not having to go through that (and the question of when, if ever, your gear will sell and whether your buyer will try to claim the gear was damaged or otherwise try to hold up your payments).  I’ll add that I found them to be reasonable on price negotiation if you have a good reason for asking for more. In a recent case, for example, it was a very small $ issue, but they ultimately were accommodating.  I had realized, after we struck a trade deal on a new to me streamer, that I had a larger SSD in my to-be-traded-in streamer than I had told them, and once i figure it out, I asked them for a few more dollars to account for the greater value in gear. At first they said all they could do is to add a credit to my “rewards” account with them, but after a few cordial emails back and forth over the space of 24 hours, they agreed to give me that amount in cash instead.)

Any way, for what it is worth, I have found their products, service and follow up to be excellent.
