Another "kinda-newbie" head scratcher

No matter what Phonostage I use, no matter which cartridge or cables, I get an annoying distortion sound from my speakers kind of like the sound of AM in between stations if anyone here is old enough to remember that sound. Doesn't happen on the digital side.

Any ideas?

Sutherland KC Vibe MKII

Darlington MP7B: 68V Discrete J-FET RIAA MM+LOMC Phono Preamplifier w/EQ Trim (+35 to +72dB)

Parasound Zphono XRM

I remember KC Vibe Mk2 or more specifically the cables connected to it reacted to EERO mesh node when it was close. Moving it away approximately 1m completely resolved the issue. Vibe is a good phono. And so is parasound. I would encourage you to try the Vibe again but move the wifi away from it. I would be surprised is Oarjs is better than Sutherland. Especially when you’re using toslink out of parks into DAC. That’s depriving you of a true analog experience. My $0.02

If it comes and goes, note whether the symptom correlates with your refrigerator compressor running or your furnace blower or AC or the like.

@audphile1 thanks for the vote of confidence. I totally understand. And I would prefer to use a standard phonopre. It was already 2m away. But being plugged into the same circuit is what I’m certain is the problem. I’m just going to have to run a long cable from the room my modem is in and eliminate the offending device in order to overcome this issue. I’m sure my other equipment will benefit from that course of action as well.

@ericrhodes1 I recommend mesh network instead of running long cable. Shouldn’t interfere with phono stage and you have better coverage around the house.
