Ok. Do you have a wifi router in close proximity to your turntable or phono stage or phono cables? Any computers, tablets or smart phones around that area? How close is the nearest component to the table or phono stage?
Another "kinda-newbie" head scratcher
No matter what Phonostage I use, no matter which cartridge or cables, I get an annoying distortion sound from my speakers kind of like the sound of AM in between stations if anyone here is old enough to remember that sound. Doesn't happen on the digital side.
Any ideas?

@audphile1 closest wifi router is two rooms away. Phone is usually near me at seating position. Amp is one component width to the left and one level down. Preamp is one to the left and one level up. Even if I move the phono-pre further to the right, it still makes noise. I've even changed outlets and power Distributors that it's plugged into. To no effect. |
@ericrhodes1 try disconnecting the cartridge leads one by one until all are off the cartridge and see if it makes a difference. This sounds like a potential wiring issue on a turntable. Does it do this with motor not running? |
It might be radio frequency interference (RFI) getting into the phonostages either through the powerline or directly over the air. The source could be nearby powerful transmitter or something in your home. You can try turning things off in your home. I know someone who had such a problem who found out the source was a string of LED lights his daughter put up in her bedroom. This was a big distance from his system and on a different power circuit but it still broke through. |
