Streaming Is To Audio What Red Plastic Cups Are To Wine

Unpacking and going through my vinyl collection, it occurs to me that vinyl is it, whereas streaming is Audio’s red plastic cup.

The best wines taste low-shelf in the red plastic cup. Yes, the red plastic cup is cheap and convenient, just like streaming. Wine should feel the same regardless of the vessel - it’s the same wine - but it does not. So should music - but it does not. Streamed music may sound (nearly) as good as vinyl, but it feels... disposable. Vinyl does not. Vinyl is the thing. Vinyl is it! Just my opinion, of course.

Look at  my beautiful cds and sacds dude...I can fondle them in a ritualistic fashion, enjoy the artwork, read the lyrics and slowly....very slowly....very very slowly....insert them into my beautiful looking SACD player, whilst i cherish the sound of its tray opening. Thereafter, i trace the outlines of the beautiful buttons on my sacd player, fondle it a li’l more, before i press the button.

mmmmmm, It feels like an amazing ritual.

I don’t have to swim around in my bathtub with the vinyl, keep swimmin...bubble bath it with some hiny.... Popping, crackling, fluttering away, baking, dewarping...wow....wow...wow...bow...wow...wow...saves me from all of that bumbling fing nonsense....

Vinyl plastic feels a lot like that lousy red plastic cup dude.

My take on it is…

streaming is content. Your network, streamer and DAC…that’s the vessel. You can be listening to the best possible recording from your favorite streaming service and if your digital front end is not optimized, you're drinking your wine from the plastic cup.
Same applies to vinyl. With a cheap table, basic cartridge and crappy phono stage you’re again drinking from the plastic cup but now you’re choking on all the sediment as well.
To me vinyl and streaming are two completely different means of enjoying the same content. They sound different, and I enjoy both. Even though lately my listening is 75% vinyl 25% streaming but that’s just because my vinyl rig is a new toy.

I see no point in CDs or SACDs unless the recording isn’t available on streaming.

My $0.02

Music is the thing!  All the rest is details.  Last week I found a Dizzy Gillespie album on Qobuz that was new to me.  It sounded great too.  So I found a copy, double CD, on ebay in like new condition for peanuts.  Free shipping too.  It sounds and looks like new too.  Life is good.  I have a lot of these same cuts on vinyl too.  They sound great too.  A man can't have too much Dizzy.  It is all good.

I don't stream. Once in a while I try but I always go back to vinyl and CD.

I don't think the analogy is good though. If you had added: from your phone to a bluetooth speaker...
