I hope the above sheds a bit more light and presents a bigger picture for us to view the effects of power cords, etc within the context of an audio system.

To All Cable Deniers, 1 Very Simple Question.
There are people coming into cable threads and saying all cables sound identical. So I have 1 question for y'all.
Today, it is about power cords.
The end-plug, the metal part, the one you plug into the wall outlet. Without knowing the % of copper in the plug of your basic cable, can you absolutely certain say it sounds identical to a plug with 98% copper?
How about 60% copper plug vs 98% copper? Identical?
40% copper, Identical?
20% copper, Identical?
0% copper, Identical?
To wrap up, the question is very simple. If the copper % is different, would the 2 plugs still sound the same?
A bonus question, if a plug is 60% gold, will it sound identical vs a 98% copper?

this post is needless as OP is apparently a sorcerer now. if you can hear differences enough to spend massively, your choice. I have on the other hand had experiences with friends who are cable pilled and they have let me borrow their cables and they even set it up with my system and I was totally blindfolded and I came out of the experiment more staunch in my doubt of cables doing anything when there are more present issues such as room/speaker coupling, listening distance, speaker itself being tonally coherent and so many more factors have precedence before one should even think about cables. So my cable denial is rooted in actual experimentation that was done with my cable loving friends and acquaintances and I have ended up converting all but one. Doesn't mean I stop being friends with them.

@kofibaffour you’re absolutely right. If your system and room acoustics suck, buying better cables is a waste of money. In addition, if you can’t tell any difference between components or cables when your electronics, speakers and room acoustics are tuned, your hearing sucks and you should cut your losses and sell it all and buy yourself a compact affordable system to enjoy music. |
@audphile1 I guess my hearing sucks cos I have an incredibly potent sounding system and no cable has shown any upside to having them by virtue of some marketing that said they made a difference. I will be enjoying my music with my terrible hearing and worrying less about cables. It is very freeing @mashif I literally wrote that I managed to let friends who were cable enjoyers test stuff in my space with their cables as they told me it will make a difference and we took turns testing whilst blindfolded. No one passed. The one that still holds onto his cable dogma wasn't in the test and doesn't want to (which is fine by me) I did the test to make sure for myself that I was not just basing my thoughts on hearsay. Them joining me was their choice to take So yeah the sample size might be only 4 people including me but it is a good enough sample for me to not fret over cables |
