My method was to listen to actual physical media first and come as close to the sound as I was getting with streaming. I choose sound quality over everything else. If your interface degraded sound quality then it was a no go.  Roon slightly affected sound quality therefore I sought other options. Eversolo T8, Eversolo T8. Paying anything more just gets you a fancier case and an inferior app.

Have any of you directly compared the Innuos Pulsar with the Sonore Signature Rendu SE Deluxe (optical) and, if yes, can you share your impressions of any sonic attributes and differences between the two?

Also, are there any other pure streamers (i.e., not streamer/servers) you would recommend comparing the above two with, that are in the approximately $5-8K price range?

@mitch2 I have only dipped my toe in the waters with a used CX server, but I have been mightily impressed with Antipodes. Their K21 fits your bill depending on connectivity needs.
