I had a REF5SE that burned the circuit board, but no holes. My problem was too many hours on the 6550 power tube. Turned out that owners manual didn’t mention that tube needed replacement at 2500 hours, only mentioned the 6H30’s were to be replaced at 4000 hours. Audio Research did replace the board under warranty and the manual for the REF6SE did include that 2500 hour note. But this was prior to AR selling to the current owners.
Audio Research burning holes in printed circuit boards ???
I have a Audio Research ref 75 with a hole burned through the board next to one of the out-put tubes.......When you power it up it blows a 5 amp fuse in seconds, no warm up........A little hard to trouble shoot because it happens so fast ........It has blown the b+ lead to the out put transformer in half..........I haven't heard of any problems with output transformers on these amps (Sowder)........Any ideas ??? All new tubes !!
