used power amp under 1500

I started with a great system and I managed to downgrade it to an OK sound through a lot of trades, sales, questionable decisions and shrinking budget. (No regrets, it's been a fun journey.) I ended up with very low sensitivity, hard to drive speakers and now I need more power. Will 100 Watts be enough and is it OK and safe to buy used? Any brands that are a good value at $1500?

@parkergetdean ,

Seriously, I don’t know how you’d do better than that.

If it is in fact a Virtuoso.

The Virtuouso is a good bit more expensive than the regular dual mono, more refined and more power. He’s got the retail price of the dual mono up and not the Virtuoso.

I’d ask a lot of questions as to what proof he can provide that it’s the Virtuouso other than just because the receipt says it is. He’s also showing the specs for the dual mono. The Virtuouso is 200 watts @ 8 ohms. Something’s not adding up.

@thecarpathian OK, so I need to find out if it is indeed the virtuoso?

I can't post any questions because I need to add a credit card and for several reasons I have not done it. But I may have to.

@thecarpathian

If I lived in London or Munich or or Vienna, (I wish) I could probably just take the train to see a bunch of used gear and choose. The problem with buying used from audiogon or usaudiomart or craigslist is that it's a shot in the dark, it may or may not work with my speakers. Then I am stuck with a 3-15 year old equipmnent and I'd put it up for sale for a 20-50% loss. I have been doing this for the last 2 years. I have also travelled 1000s of miles to look at gear (made a side trip on a business trip)s. It cost me about 2K in 2 years. At some point I can't continue doing this - when I run out of $ - which is now. I am limited to the 100 miles radius of my region or returnable deals.

It's also true that I always wanted something else, but now I think I am done. I will settle for a midfi system and World Peace laugh

Yeah, something’s off.

I believe it breaks down something like this:

Classic Belles Aria: 75watts and $2500

Aria dual mono: 85watts and $3500

Aria Signature: 125watts and $4500

Aria Virtuouso: 200watts and around $5800

So, he’s advertising it as the dual mono, giving it close to Aria Signature specs, and claiming it’s a Virtuoso when it’s plainly in the dual mono case.

Not saying at all the guy’s crooked as he has great feedback, but that is one confusing ad.
