Burmester 218.....

I am glad to see Burmester is being talked about on these forums, they are superb gear in my opinion.

if you haven't had the chance to hear the 218 do yourself a favor and take a listen, I started my Burmester journey with a 956mk2, upgraded to a 911mk3, upgraded to the 216 and have now settled on the 218

going up a level with each amp they all got better, more dynamics, deeper/wider soundstage better control, you name it, drastically better.  the speed and dynamics of the 218 is as good as I have heard in quite some time

just wanted to share some of my journey and joy of owning Burmester, highly recommend.

@rman9 How would you describe the difference between 035 and 088? Is it significant? At the moment I use 089 player direct into 956mk2, but I am looking for preamp. Previously owned 011, thinking to get it back again, as 088 are still quite pricy. Wondering if 035 would be sufficient upgrade over 089 going direct? Also I have tried 935 (the predecessor of 035) and the 089 direct was clearly better solution to my ears.

@alexatpos The 088 is very refined, but the 035 is no slacker.. It is lively and I feel there is a little bit more punch with the 035 and its a fun preamp. The adjustments on the 088 can be done through the remote but not the 035. You'd have to use the front panel. Again, perception is very subjective. The 035 was an after thought when I had the 088 already. But I am so glad I got that too. I use the Monitor and tone function on the 035 to add more fun and presence to modern music. But for classical music which is what I listen mostly I have to say the 088 is beautiful. You will not go wrong with the 035. I drive the Luxman M10X with the 035 and the 088 drives the 956mkII. Please let me know if that helps. Speakers are Magico and SF Serafinos
