Sales Tax for online orders

I just ordered an item here on Agon. The invoice is showing sales tax ($26.00) and a service charge ($2.99). I live in SC and the vendor is in PA. Kind of surprised as I thought sales tax was only applied when you purchase and pick up in the same state? And, the ad doesn't state sales tax and service charge will be applied. Should sales tax be applied in this application?

This came from a federal decision out of the Dakota and auto pen.some charge some dont.cant figure it out but know I don't benefit from it.

Its nice we pay the state to collect thier bills.wish i could run my business like that

I have REAL heartburn about Sales/Use Tax arising from, applied to and collected from 'person-to-person' sell/buy transactions of 'Used' or 'Pre-Owned' items.  This, regardless of how the PRIVATE non-merchant parties to the sale came together.  Remember newspaper Classified Ads or the periodical Penny Saver publication?  Since when did THEY ever collect Sales Tax on the "commerce" they facilitated between PRIVATE persons for their Used junk - with only the information 'service' they offered?!  It's too late now, but maybe in the future...VOTE SMARTER?!  Or better yet first GET smart.  It is the ONLY way this American way of life will sustain itself.
