Which turntable is better?

 I am considering my first turntable and having difficulty deciding between Technics 1500C, Audio Technica LP8X, Music Hall Stealth, Mofi Ultradeck or Rega Planer 6. My budget is 2K to 2.5K. I understand all the diferences in these tables as far as belt drive versus direct drive and semi automatic functions etc. but wanted to know from others experiences with these? I will probably upgrade cartridge from what is supplied. I don't have to have built in phono stage as my integrated, Unison Research Unico Due has one onboard.

Thanks for everyone's input. I have narrowed down choices to Mofi Ultradeck, Rega Planar 6 and Technics SL-1200GR2. Anyone want to rank these on sound quality and reliability?

@robertq,

I think you’re spot on. Those tables are all good and very hard choices to choose from. You’ve done your research. Nicely done! I don’t know about the other tables? But the Technics SL-1200GR2 will last you a lifetime. The build quality is tank like and there’re so many passive ways to upgrade it that it will turn out to be a fun adventure over the years. Whichever you choose, don’t be afraid to ask when is the next ’sale’ coming up for the table. You might get lucky.

I second whoever said to get a Rega P8 demo or maybe used from a dealer. The arm on that one is phenomenal. Just make sure you have it set up with as few vibrations as possible, ideally on a shelf or at least on a vibration control device if you're not sitting on a slab.

For the money, the Mofi Ultradeck is a great deal if bundled with the master tracker cart or above.  Prices have been significantly discounted lately. I like the Delrin platter material also.

Rega P6 if a fair buy. The used P8 will perform noticeably better.

I know the Technics 1200+ turntable series are a solid sonic audiophile choice, not so sure about lower models.
