Purging, instead of endlessly storing

Hobbies mean collecting/upgrading, which eventually leads to too much stuff.  I’m again purging a very good system to a friend so that it no longer sits idle in original boxes.  Everyone has their own style.  Selling here on A’gon also has merit.

My philosophy;  balancing the steep depreciation against someone truly appreciating a fine upgrade.  That leads me in this direction.  Hope to encourage others by example. Not preaching, as I don’t do missionary work.  No virtue signaling, hate that.

They will get Rega CD, Naim DAC 1, Merlin BM monitors, Sound Organization massed stands, Quadrasprie SVT equipment stand, JL Dominion sub, quality cabling.   They will start 2026 in that way.  Cheers and Happy New Year

This is great, I love the idea behind it. Nothing wrong with selling used items here or one of the other sites. But sometimes selling massive items is very challenging, and donating brings rewards of its own. I've done a good mix of both over the years.

I think we can all agree that keeping things in storage for years or decades is not doing anyone any good. Either use it, convert it to cash, or let someone else enjoy it.

My interest in Audio has created two situations that has been responsible for Audio Equipment being used and becoming superseded in use or being bought solely for what can be learned as the follow up.

I have TT equipment (TT > Tonearms > Cart’s) that extends back to nearly 40 Years, that is in todays Market able to generate a tidy sum.

I also have Electronics to support the use of a TT source that extends back to near the same time when it was commission built for me. I would not know the Value of this, but the Black Gate components within it will create interest.

Valve Pre Amp’s and Power Amp’s are also owned that extend back to this period, and after having witnessed a few recent purchases made by friends of Valve Power Amp’s from a similar background and history, there is a good gauge on the monetary value, but also a knowledge of how good these designs are for audio purposes. Which reinforces the notion better off kept.

The go to Speakers are also with a history of near 30 Years in the system and during the past Holiday Festivities have finally met a Speaker that is their successor, it looks like the Speakers that have had such a loyalty are now Superseded.

There is also the not too common methodology for listening to recorded music,  where I am not a one End Sound Person. I like to listen to my owned recorded media, using a selection of differing Audio Equipment, with the intent to create difference to an End Sound.

The above creates only one outcome, audio equipment can quite easily overtake a space dedicated for the listening experience. A space can quite easily become a Mad Scientists Laboratory.

Then there is the second interest, which is once more TT related and mote about bringing Vintage TT designs into the modern world as a functioning design.

The idea of trying out Vintage and then being instrumental in designing changes, starts as a simple affair, but evolves if let run with someone like myself into a complex situation.

One TT put under the Spotlight for what is able to be exchanges as a Vintage Design to be superseded by a design much more modern as the conception is fine.

Then the notion becomes how does an assessment occur of works undertaken, hence another original Spec’ TT is the required way forward.

TT number 2 arrives in nowhere near as good a condition as TT 1 and this does not help. TT 3 is purchased under the guise TT 2 will be bettered and become a donor model for Parts for the other two TT’s if need be.

Extend that interest across a selection of Vintage TT’s from different Brands and it is not long before triplocates of TT’s are being purchased for the next experiences of the TT models and the investigations the make changes to them incorporating modernity as the sole intent for the design.

In all my time in Audio I can recollect 2 x Sales of owned equipment, one being a Phonostage and another being a immaculate Vintage TT, way too pristine to be considered for experimentation of A/B comparisons. I had never seen such a happy buyer when met person, they were rapturous when inspecting the sale item.

I have lost /mislaid many of the smaller items, Valves are a nightmare.

I have loaned much and for long periods, some timelines to the point the loan was completely forgotten until returned.

The time has come, de-clutter is the Buzz Word, with a Wife in disbelief.

Much is to be passed onto others, to enable their having an experience, of what can be achieved from not adopting buying into modern Brands designs for Audio Equipment.

Other Customers will hopefully be already familiarised and wants the purchase to come from a Vendor who has actually been genuine in their care for the item for sale.

A selection of Items will also be put forward to the HiFi Group for a Long-term loan between members, which can quite easily be a few years if history repeats itself.

A space with no trip hazards, A space not needing a major upheaval when visitors attend to hear the system in use, Emptied Cupboards, Storage Containers substantially reduced, I will be unrecognisable.

Will this be the route to becoming Cathartic, Disburdened.

Will Eudaimonia overwhelm me, or will Cold Turkey take oversurprise

System complete!  Sounds incredible.  Mission accomplished.  Finished with Luxman 509x integrated.  Tried pasting photo.  No luck.
