used power amp under 1500

I started with a great system and I managed to downgrade it to an OK sound through a lot of trades, sales, questionable decisions and shrinking budget. (No regrets, it's been a fun journey.) I ended up with very low sensitivity, hard to drive speakers and now I need more power. Will 100 Watts be enough and is it OK and safe to buy used? Any brands that are a good value at $1500?

Schiit Wotan at $2k new. I sold mine for $1600 and the buyer loves it. This amp can drive almost anything. I had 2 CODA amps and the Wotan amp but only needed 2. The Wotan was also the easiest to sell.

When considering an amp option such as a Carver it would more about the high current rather than the wattage. I think they have worked well for me over the years because I am a big proponent of biamping speakers whenever possible.

I have a pair of Odyssey Khartago monoblocks that were upgraded to the top option a couple years ago. I’ve since replaced them so these great sounding amps are just sitting around. Let me know if you are curious, I can fill you in on Odyssey, Klaus the owner, and his gear. I’m still running his phono pre and tube preamp.

If you are set on sticking with your current speakers the nudge in the direction of current is a really good direction to look in.  An amp having grip, control over speakers is as much about current as Watts.  If you could find something like a Coda 11, that’s an amp that is in a different league than most of the recommendations.  Some other recommendations for new or slightly used, Parasound A21 used, Paech Tree Audio (Class D).  Of the recommendations already provided, Music Fidelity is really had to beat, especially used and if you snagged one of their integrated amps, M6, likely an overall upgrade to your Pre as well.  Schitt from a dollars to performance ratio is about a good as it gets.  Rogue is a great company.  If you go with a Schitt their gear already offers such great value there isn’t a big discount used, new is the way to go, used though can allow you to jump into another class of product like the Coda.  Good Luck.

There is a CSi integrated Coda on EBay for around $ 2,000, maybe could be had for less. Says it was manufactured in 2009, you can call Coda an ask about longevity at its age and support for repair.  Based on how Coda designs, builds their products, if you could buy this sub $ 2000 and coda says it should have a nice life span, extremely hard to beat the Pre / Amp combo.  I had a CSiB integrated for a time and it was a beast that punched far above its weight class and had the current / watts to drive almost any speaker.  You mentioned not liking Krell, most of their new gear would likely be outside your price range but… they design amps that are tailor made for what you are looking for, tons of current and watts that control and drive almost any speaker.  Their XD line of amps are amazing but likely above budget.
