Battle of the Open Baffles

Watching Jay's video today about the Maco Acoustics speakers, and saw the Caladan's late last year.  Seems like open baffle death match is brewing...

If you can place the speaker away from the back wall, OB speakers tend to be very good at imaging.  The sound from the back wave will be separated in time from the direct sound so that it won’t confuse the imaging, rather, it enhances the sense of a large soundfield.

I have spent inordinate amounts of time researching where to go speaker-wise as an alternative to my beloved Shahinian Obelisks and OB is my decision. Currently I'm leaning heavily towards the MACO Macarias in birch.

@fastricky The imaging from my PAP Trio15 Classic is nothing short of spectacular. You get very exact positioning (width, depth and height), but unlike traditional box speakers, you also get lots and lots of ambient information, making the room feel "live".

I can honestly say that after going to OB speakers, I will never go back... and I've had some pretty high end "traditional" speakers including Wilson Watt/Puppy's.

@audiojan Thanks for that info, I'm absolutely sold on the OB direction. Did you listen to any other options aside from the PAP or did you just take the plunge?
