Shorter length power cable recommendations?

Hello friends -

Recently I added a Furman Elite-15 PF i 13-Outlet Linear Filtering AC Power Source to my system.  I was previously using an inexpensive surge protector for all of my equipment.

Since removing the surge protector and following the input recommendations for where to plug in components I have noticed a significant improvement in listening to records on my Sansui SR-717 turntable  Just an overall improvement in the sound quality.  Other components continue to sound fine.  The real purpose of the Furman, in my use case was to get rid of the less than desirable surge protector.

My issue is that my power cords are all very long for my components and I have a bit of a spaghetti mess behind my system.

I am located in the US, I am using Cambridge Audio components - would you have any recommendations for power cord brands that are short?  Like around 2 feet in length?  Ideally a power cable would cost less than $100.

I do plan on making changes to my system over the coming year - for instance I have an Eversolo T8 streamer coming next week, but I think as a general rule the distance between my current or future components will remain the same as will the plug inputs.

A response - just use zip ties is also perfectly appreciated.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and I appreciate any comments you have!

Locate the Furman an additional 2-3 feet away from the components.

Iconoclast Cables by Belden Cable.  Excellent, really well made. Reasonable.

Read about them at Blue Jeans Cable

And, I own my share of hi-end stuff, AQ Hurricanes for example.

Terrific value.

"I pasted a link up above to the BOGO sale.
I used these Audience power cables on Pass Labs X260.8 amps with great results.
They also work good on digital. Hard to beat for the cost.

Here’s a review as well"

Yes, I love Enjoy the Music.Com magazine along with several other online publications - Positive Feedback, Soundstage, Resistor Magazine, Tone Audio, 6 Moons, Wauwatosa Tube Factory, Stereotimes to name a few all of which I consider valuable resources and quite entertaining. I also actively researched and considered the Audience power unit and cables based on ETM's recommendation when I was looking for a replacement for my decades old Adcom ACE-515 AC Enhancer, in addition I was seriously considering the Audioquest Niagara 1200 which during COVID was out of stock everywhere on the planet. Good thing though, because when the Panamax m5300-PM popped up in my algorithm on sale at Best Buy for under $600 with tax, I immediately purchased it on their site and picked it up an hour later in Dedham. Turns out it's ergonomics, functionality and effectiveness at preventing ground loops and other extraneous annoyances supersedes anything the Audioquest could have done for me plus it has amps and incoming voltage readouts on the front panel that if not completely informative are at least entertaining to look at.

I still think the Audience would have probably fulfilled most of my needs for it's build and price but the Panamax's form factor is much more useful in my situation.

Hello and welcome,

What you’re experiencing after removing the cheap surge protector is actually very common. Those units often add series impedance and noise, so moving to a Furman with proper filtering usually results in better dynamics, lower noise floor, and more coherent sound—especially noticeable with analog sources like your Sansui turntable.

Regarding shorter power cords (around 2 ft / ~0.6 m), a few practical points first:
 1. Shorter is perfectly fine
There’s no technical downside to using shorter power cords as long as they’re well-built and properly terminated. In fact, shorter runs reduce excess cable clutter and minimize looped cable interaction behind the rack.
 2. You don’t need anything exotic for source components
Cambridge Audio gear and streamers like the Eversolo T8 are not particularly current-hungry. A well-constructed, modest-gauge cable with solid connectors is more than sufficient.

Budget-friendly recommendations (< $100)
 • DIY / Custom length cables
If you’re comfortable with this route, a simple 14–16 AWG cable using quality copper and decent connectors will outperform most generic stock cords.
 • Hospital-grade cords (2–3 ft)
These are often overlooked and are excellent value:
 • Heavy-duty copper conductors
 • Tight, secure grip
 • Very low contact resistance
They’re electrically solid and neutral sounding—great for digital sources and preamps.
 • Entry-level aftermarket brands
Look for basic models from reputable manufacturers, avoiding shielding overkill at this price point. At short lengths, good copper and terminations matter more than exotic geometry.

 3. Cable management matters more than brand here
Since everything is plugged into the Furman, keep:

 • Power cords separated from interconnects
 • Excess length avoided (which you’re already fixing)
 • Cables loosely dressed rather than tightly coiled

That alone can reduce noise pickup and improve overall system neatness.

Final thought

With a good power conditioner already in place, don’t overthink power cables at this budget level. Short, well-made cords with solid connectors will do the job perfectly, clean up the “spaghetti” behind your system, and let the Furman do what it’s designed to do.

Enjoy the new setup—and the Eversolo when it arrives.
