The Role of R&D in Product Development
With all respect to those who have written so eloquently, most high end audio manufacturers are remarkably small companies.  Many with less than ten employees, including the owner.  So, no "departments".  Everybody does everything from answering t...
Best way to buy speaker cables and to evaluate them
The Cable Company is a low risk option with good products and fair prices. Especially since the 5% is credited toward your eventual purchase.  The issue here may be that you are not really committed to a purchase.  At least not until somebody prov...
Streamers - Auralic, Aurender, Lumin, others...
J-Play.
Listening to other audiophiles rigs will help to accelerate your journey to audio nirvana!
Good discussion.  mihorn, I'm not sure how "listener fatigue"  causes a person to fall asleep. Seems to me just the opposite is true.  My sometimes multi hour listening sessions will result in a nap but it's always when the music selections and so...
Diving into Power... Cable recs for my system and ears....?
cleeds... Well said.  Don't think the man actually has ears.  Maybe, due to his belief in "science" he ignores the differences.  Likely though has never actually tried these products in his own system since he's been told they make no difference.
Ethernet to SPF converters. What's your experience?
My ethernet is hard wired to an eero router.  One GB speed.  The router runs copper to a Chord 8Switch, powered by its wall wart.  The hardwire ethernet is then connected from the switch to a Roon Nucleus and a dCS Bartok DAC.  Some time ago I pur...
??? Would You or Have You Paid A Premium Price For A Component Because Of It's Looks ???
If I'm paying a premium price, it's for performance.  But the gear better look like it's worth it as well.  Bad looks equals bad resale value.
Suggested upgrade paths
The new MoFi speakers seem well regarded.  But, buy nothing until you have heard them yourself.  Everybody has different preferences.
Tube change.
Gold Lion KT88s here in C-Js best amps.  on my second set.  They recommend them.
My SACD Transport feeds so much better signal to my DAC compared with streaming end...
Not sure it's entirely an answer to this query but I now use JPLAY as an alternate streaming program.  SQ seems better than Roon/Nucleus.  My Bartok DAC has its internal streamer, Mosaic , which is also excellent.  Mosaic is best when used by UPnP...
just wanted to share my fix for making my speakers cat and grand kid proof!
Well this won't be popular, but I'd with to rescue dogs. Sorry about that. Enjoy...
??? Where Does "High End" Start ???
While I agree with AudioTroy, that only defines our true hobby’s goals in one dimension. The truth is an answer that is personal to each of us.   Achieving the high end for me, as a 65 year hobbyist, was the first time I was truly thrilled by the ...
I'm a little perplexed/surprised by TMR and who sells to them.....
Hey saugertiesbob, I own a pair of those really fine B&W subs and paid my excellent dealer 10% off of retail. My system is low six figures, most bought at high discount. The room compensation software is world class and those subs may be the...
Cable Quandary
It is probably your room or speaker placement.   My Wilson speakers always seemed a tiny bit louder from the left channel.  No one complained, but I could hear it. If I positioned my self slightly right in the chair it largely went away. I have a...
How old is too old?
I had a Marantz SA7 S1 SACD/CD player that was excellent... until the mechanical drive quit.  Nobody wanted to fix it... not sure any parts were available.  The new version of the Marantz SA10 series was about $14K as I recall.  Just too expensive...
