Upgrade to B&W 804 D4 Speakers
Power coming from a Rogue Cronus Magnum "Dark" tube amp - 100 WPC with two SVS SB2000 Pro Subwoofers. Thinking of upgrading from Focal Aria 948 speakers to B&W 804 D4 Speakers. Don't ask me why I'm sort of obsessed with these B&WS. Anyway, would anyone care to share there experience with these speakers. Or maybe be recommend a pair of speakers in this price range ($16,000.00). I really don't have a favorite genre of music, but it would probably be mostly fusion, progressive and rock based.

@bzawa I don't think the 804 is a useful product. The 805 + two DB4S will give you more full mid-bass and lower extension for much less. You can use the app to pair them.
@speedysteve4 mid-bass output on the 702 can give my 802 a run for the money, better in some respect to tightness. The 804 is not on the same level. Below 40Hz, even the 802 could use help from subs. |
Have you spent time listening to the B&Ws? I get the look love. I’ve auditioned several of their towers and standmounts because of the looks but moved on because I didn’t care for the sound long term. I didn’t see the details on the size of your room but if you have the space I would go with Arendal 1528s with that budget. You can buy, listen for 60 days and return for free in the US if you’re not satisfied. recommend working with a local retailer or manufacturer with a reasonable return policy so you can audition the speakers in your room with your equipment listening to the music you know my heart and love to be sure and avoid FOMO. |
Hello everyone Thanks so much for all the responds. Very much appreciated. I was looking at the B&Ws based on my perception of the brand, price and appearance. I didn't realize the importance of speaker/amp compatibility. All of your advice is very helpful. Any other speaker recommendations ($10,000 - $15,000) that would work well with the Dark Cronus Magnum? Thanks again |
@soix Thank you for responding."what sound characteristics are most important to you?" I find this question somewhat difficult to answer. Of course, I would like a deeper and wider soundstage with each instrument having its own space. But isn't that a product of you get what you pay for? Generally speaking more money = better sound. I guess the sound characteristics I like are clarity, airyness, warmth. If anything, my present system can sound a little strident with a messy soundstage (like a wall of sound). I hope I'm making sense to you? Thanks
