On a journey for the last couple of years

I have read with interest the feedback from the forums and enjoy hearing other perspectives. I have upgraded my system significantly and feel I am now chasing the perfect system, which as we all know does not exist. The last decision I need to make is to replace my Aragon mono blocks with new mono blocks.

Current System

SimAudio - 740P Pre Amp

SimAudio 260 D CD Player

SimAudio 310 LP Phono Amp

Project X Turn table with Ortofon Black Quintet

Sonus Faber Olympica 5 with Martin Logan Sub (which I may upgrade once mono blocks tested

I am looking to enhance the low end with more punch, the Aragon's are just not doing it and I am considering two SimAudio 761's, Mcintosh MC611, Audio Research Mono Blocks.

I will certainly test drive the amps before purchasing. Thank you for reading my post Happy New Year

Soix,

Yes that helps as it will lead to an easier decision when upgrading the mono blocks. I just assumed that new more power would do the trick. I will continue to test various scenarios before jumping into new amps.

Very helpful thank you....

@peterrock Given the low frequency range on your speakers I strongly agree with the recommendations that a properly setup, stereo pair of musical subs will result in a much larger benefit than upgrading amps.  For a music focus I have become a big fan of REL subs based on their ability to seamlessly integrate.   REL's website has a selection tool for the recommended subs given your speakers/room that may be helpful to you.  For my system I have a pair of the No. 31's but also think the Carbon Special models are a great choice.  If you're comfortable with used, the previous Carbon model is showing up for some pretty favorable pricing.

Ever consider bi-amping the Olympica 5s?  You could put a real ballsy amp on the bass, and an amp (or monoblocks) with a big sweet soundstage on the midbass/treble..

I’m a McIntosh fan(see my virtual system) but  would do the following in this order:

1. Room optimization

2. Dual subs. I run two Legacy Audi Foundation subs. Made a gigantic difference.

3. Speaker placement and alignment in conjunction with #’s 1&2

4. Get the MC611’s. Heck. Just get them anyway. Hey. I’m a Mac fan. 😎
