yes, worth it (if your system has the appropriate level of resolution), not hard
the u1 mini will be hard to beat under $2500-3000 with this upgrade imo for sonic purity - upgraded u1 mini are selling for $1200-1500 used, that is a very good value

I do not know the rest of your gear, but if you have a decent system and want to take your digital source to the next level, upgrading to the U2 Mini with a Farah Super 3 LPS is the way to go. The overall cost for the upgrade would be the price difference for a used U2 Mini (about $500) plus the Farah, which is not cheap. According to reliable and trustworthy reviewers, the upgrade from the U1 Mini to the U2 Mini with Farah is 'night and day' (especially on the low ends control / punchiness) and brings the performance fairly close to that of a full U2. |
@mlapenta I have a U2 mini with an S-Booster and prior had a Lumin D2 with an S-Booster. I also had Auralic Streamer that I upgraded the power supply on. Power supplies make a big difference in digital, it’s a worth while upgrade in my experience. If you can jump to the U2 vs the Mini, U2 should outperform the mini with an upgraded power supply but that gap will be smaller between the 2. Check out reviews on Upscale Audio, when I’ve bought my S-Boosters they seemed to be one of the larger dealers. It’s a very easy install. It does void the warranty but on a U1 guessing it’s already out of warranty. I haven’t had any unit I’ve upgraded the power supply on get hurt from a value standpoint, I was able to sell them and at a premium to units that weren’t upgrade. I might look into selling the U1 mini, buying the U2 mini and upgrading the power supply either now or down the road. Good Luck!! |
