Rega P3 RS, Michell TecnoDec, Avid Ingenium

I sold off my audio system several years ago after having lost my dedicated listening room to a home renovation (thaaaaat's right smiley).  I'm looking to build a new system at a relatively modest level and have been researching turntables in the $2000-$2500 range.  The three I've been most focused on are the Rega P3 RS, the Michell TecnoDec and the Avid Ingenium.  Needless to say it's difficult to listen to all of these turntables in person without traveling around the country, so I was hoping to tap into the collective knowledge of the forum.  If anyone has any opinions on how these turntables compare then I'd love to hear them.

For reference, I've owned a Planar 3/RB300 in the distant past and really enjoyed it.  I subsequently went to a Linn LP12, then a VPI Aries/SDS/JMW-10 and finally a Basis 2500 Signature/Vector 3.  So, yeah, I'm kind of going backwards at this point but I've given myself a realistic budget and just want something relatively affordable and simple so that I can enjoy my LPs again.

Thanks in advance.

@elliottbnewcombjr The Michell T2i is a tweaked Rega RB330, so no built-in VTA adjustment per se.  However, you can use spacers under the tonearm to raise the height when using non-Rega cartridges.  Rega (and others) make 2mm spacers to raise the arm height if necessary.

Ortofon also has a version of the 2M called the 2MR with a narrower cartridge body that is made specifically for Rega-based tonearms, eliminating the need for spacers.

@lewm

I don’t know about Denons, I assumed the arm geometry would be correct of course. Afterward, I wondered, you make a lot of sense, I just felt that I might have promoted a model with a known problem, so I wanted to ’undo’ any endorsement and let the OP and others figure it out for themselves.

Nothing defending the TT like you just did popped up right away which I thought would have occurred.

When I see some of the dumb things Sony does on different models of their cameras, and odd things in autos, I say to my self, "how long have they been making _____s?

Where is Kodak, Sears, A&P, you would think .......

@lpluvr

here’s a screen shot of the specs, the height of the AT160ml is 17 or 17.3mm. Just the body, or does that include the stylus in the groove with a tracking force applied?

I'm gonna measure mine tomorrow.

@elliottbnewcombjr That's a good question.  I've seen some cartridge dimension charts that measure the height of the cartridge from the top to the bottom of the cartridge body, and some that measure it from the top of the cartridge body to the tip of the stylus.  But it's not clear if those latter measurements consider deflection of the cantilever due to an applied tracking force.  I'm not sure that minor difference would change things much anyway, but I'm curious to hear what you find when you measure your AT.

AT160ML is 17mm high incl Stylus with 1.25g tracking pressure applied

17.3 wide; 28mm long (including 22mm long body and 6mm for the pins)
