I won't pay any premium for "collectible" (or rare) records, only for sound quality. The best sounding are either the AP UHQRs or Mofi One steps, depending on the title, so $150 for a couple Steely Dan UHQRs and was able to get 3 others at a discount. $125 for a Hotel California One Step and got a few of those at a discount, much below $100. If they could lose the expensive packaging and knock the price down 40%, I probably would get some more of them. $60 for the AP 45s is a good bargain in general. I have a couple of the Atlantic reissues and they sound fantastic. I own many "collectible" audiophile records but I bought them all new mostly 40+ years ago, but as long as I like playing them, I keep them. Sold a few I never listened to and a few others I upgraded. I am a fan of 45s. In general, all things being equal, they sound better. I don't mind the exercise getting up to flip them. Wish my old Mofi UHQRs were produced at 45 rpm. They send amazing. Most collectors seem to be trying to make money, that is not my goal. They're not stamps or coins, they are meant to be enjoyed, not hermetically sealed as an investment. |
